Time Management for Remote Employees
Tips and Techniques to use time more effectively
I created a concept project for Peak Leadership, an eLearning vendor that creates soft skills courses to support enterprise talent development programs. This course provides tips and strategies to help employees improve their time management in remote working environments.
Audience: Companies that employ remote workers and would like to provide resources to their employees to make them more productive.
Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Storyboarding, Prototyping
Tools Used: Articulate Rise 360, Canva, MindMeister, Google Suite
With the rapid growth of remote work due to the pandemic and changing policies, many companies and workers have been thrown into remote work environments. Working from home has many benefits and challenges for employees and employers. Employees working from home may feel isolated, have difficulty focusing, or work straight through without taking breaks, leading to stress and burnout. This course provides them with tips and strategies for setting up an effective schedule, prioritizing tasks, managing distractions, and communicating effectively using various tools. This will lead to improved productivity and performance and promote a better work/life balance.
The first step I took was to conduct a Needs Analysis. I consulted SMEs on the most effective productivity strategies and techniques for adults. I also researched the biggest barriers to effective time management for remote workers and interviewed several full-time remote and hybrid employees to learn more about their successes and challenges when working from home. Remote workers bring a wealth of personal experiences in time management and organization, and I wanted to provide tips and strategies to enhance their current practices.
Once I analyzed the problem, I developed the course objectives and learning objectives that I wanted learners to master by the end of the course. I then created the final assessment activities. I then worked backward to design learning materials that would provide background knowledge and practice for each of the strategies included in the course.
After completing the analysis and design plan, I developed a text-based storyboard to sequence the course and create the content. The course follows Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction model by stimulating recall, providing content and guidance, and providing feedback to guided practice. It provides relevant and meaningful application, as per Keller's ARCS model of motivation.
When creating the visual mock-ups for this project, I used the company's Style Guide and the WebAIM website to assess the color contrast for accessibility. When designing the content, I utilized Mayer's principles of multimedia learning by segmenting the course into sections, including relevant graphics that help the learner understand and organize information and a conversational tone for personalization.
